Ministry Opportunities

Bethlehem Lutheran Church has numerous opportunities for volunteers to help out in many different areas. Please check back often as there are always new ministry opportunities emerging.

We currently have a need for volunteers in the following areas:

Welcoming Opportunities

Daytime Volunteer Receptionist: Provide clerical and phone support. Tasks may include answering phones, photocopying and special projects. Excellent phone skills required. A love for welcoming and helping guests a plus. Contact Cyndi for more information.

Sunday morning/Wednesday Evening Receptionists: Answer phones and staff the church office on either Sunday mornings (8 a.m. to noon) or one of the shifts during Wednesday evening supper and worship. Contact Cyndi for more information.

Welcome Center Host/Hostess: Be a welcoming presence at the Welcome Center 20 minutes before and 20 minutes after a Sunday Morning or a Wednesday evening Worship Service. Tasks include welcoming visitors and giving them a gift bag, answering questions, providing information. Contact Margo for more information.

Greeter: Wear a greeters name badge and roam the Narthex to extend a word of welcome, answer questions, give directions to visitors and members at the Saturday evening or the Sunday morning worship service. The time commitment is 20 minutes before a worship service and 20 minutes after. Contact Margo for more information.

Worshipping Opportunities

Bethlehem Tech Team: Technology is one of the fastest growing ministries of worship today. If your interest is in sound systems, projection, or any other technology based application, we have a spot on this team for you! Contact Denny or Cyndi for more information.

Good Friday Crosswalk: Be part of a alternative worship service in the form of our dramatic Good Friday Crosswalk. Cast or crew, on or behind the scenes your gifts are appreciated! Contact Jennifer Rott to volunteer.

Children's Christmas Program/Mini-Musicals: Help with rehearsal or production elements such as light and sound. If you feel called to assist with this ministry and would like to help children "share the story" please contact Jennifer Rott.

Teaching Opportunities

Preschool Assistant: Looking for adults who love young children and are willing to spend two or three mornings or afternoons a week in Bethlehem’s preschool room assisting teacher, Stephanie Kline.  Contact Stephanie for more information.

Wednesday School Circle of Friends Leader: Meet and greet the Wednesday School children, have caring conversation with them during snack time and assist where needed. (3:30 – 5:00 p.m.) No teaching required. Contact Dianne for more information.

Wednesday School Playground Assistant: Supervise playground activities during the Wednesday School "After-School" program (3:00 – 3:40 and 4:00 – 4:40 p.m. September through early May). Contact Dianne for more information.

Sunday or Wednesday School Team Teacher: Teach a lesson for one grade level (2 years old through 5th grade) for approx. 40 minutes. The teacher guide gives you ideas and suggestions that you can customize to meet your teaching style. Contact Dianne for more information.

Grow Group Leader: Grow Groups are short term small groups that discuss life and the last scripture and sermon. Each series is about 7 weeks long, and is a great opportunity to meet some new people and grow in faith. Leaders are responsible to pick a time & place to meet, participate in leader training (about 1 hour), and invite participants. For more information contact Pastor Jeff.

Small Group Support & Coordination: If you'd like to support and strengthen BLC's small group ministries, talk with Pastor Jeff to discern how your gifts may be a blessing to others.

Confirmation Guide: Assist in building relationships and passing on the faith as you guide a small group of 8th or 9th grade confirmands in discussion for approx. 45 minutes every other week. Leader guides are given to each confirmation guide to assist in walking the group through the session. Contact Pastor Deb for more information.

Faith Chest Action Team: When children are baptized, Bethlehem wants to give them a faith chest which allows them and their families to grow in their faith. If you enjoy working with tools, wood or staining, this ministry is just for you. Contact Dianne for more information.

Puppet Ministry: Provide a faith message to the congregation, as well as Sunday & Wednesday school students through skits & music using puppets. Contact Dianne for more information.

Serving Opportunities

New Additions Ministry: Help welcome new additions to Bethlehem Lutheran families by cooking a simple meal and/or delivering it to their home.  Sewers are also needed to put together baby blankets.  Material and instruction provided.  Contact Jeanine Severson or Pastor Deb.

Piecemakers/Quilters: No experience necessary.  This group is for all who want to make a difference locally and worldwide.  If you like to cut, sew, help assemble school kits for children in need as well as kits for small infants, this is the group for you.  Projects from this group are donated to Lutheran World Relief and to local organizations. Diabetes Support Group: If you (or someone you know) would be interested in participating in such a support group, please contact the church office at 225-9740.

Wednesday Night Suppers: Help prepare, set up or serve this meal that is open to the community. We currently have 3 shifts the times of which are: 4:00 - 5:15 p.m.; 5:00 - 6:20 p.m. 5:20 - done. Contact Margo for more information.

Sunday Morning Coffee: Help during coffee hour on Sundays to serve treats and coffee in the Fellowship Hall. Contact Margo for more information.

Funerals: Provide a cake or help serve at funeral receptions. Contact Margo for more information.

Kitchen Advisor: Learn about our kitchen and be on hand for events to advise those who are serving events involving the kitchen. Contact Kay Vikander for more information

Become a Wednesday School Snack Preparer and/or Server: Put together or help serve treats to Wednesday School Children on a rotating basis. (Approximately 1 hour time commitment). Contact Margo for more information.

Van Drivers: Drive one of Bethlehem’s 2 vans to pick folks up for worship or special congregational events. Contact Margo for more information.

Nursery:Help provide a warm and welcoming environment for our smallest members during worship services, showing them that they can experience God’s love. Contact Crystal Stolle for more information.

 

Youth & Family Opportunities

Drive the church van for Table Talks: Every Tuesday during the school year, we need drivers to transport youth from Central High School to one of the ELCA churches for lunch and then back to CHS. Contact Denny for more information.

Supervise Youth Center Activities: Chaperone occasional times when the Youth Center is open. Contact Denny for more information.
